Dr. Ijeoma A. Ekeruo is the Founder and Medical Director of the Arrhythmia Care Center in Houston, Texas, and serves as Secretary and Cardiac EP Lead for the Cardiovascular Education Foundation.
She earned her B.Sc. in Chemistry summa cum laude from Spelman College and her MD from Emory University School of Medicine, followed by combined Internal Medicine/Pediatrics residency and fellowships in Cardiovascular Disease and Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology at UTHealth Houston. She serves as adjunct Associate Professor at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth.
Dr. Ekeruo specializes in complex cardiac arrhythmias, with particular expertise in atrial fibrillation management, cardiac device therapy in structural heart disease, and adult congenital heart conditions. Board-certified in Pediatrics, Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Disease, and Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology, she has been recognized with multiple Dean's Teaching Awards and was selected for both the GLOWE (Growth and Leadership for Women in Electrophysiology) and GLOBE (Growth and Leadership for Black Electrophysiologists) programs.
A passionate advocate for global cardiovascular health equity, Dr. Ekeruo leads the electrophysiology section of CVEF, dedicating her efforts to expanding cardiovascular care in underserved communities, particularly in Sub-Saharan Africa. She was part of the pioneering team that performed Nigeria's first electrophysiology procedure and continues to organize sustainable skills-sharing programs and build device and EP programs in developing regions, bridging critical gaps in cardiovascular care access worldwide.
