Dr. Emmanuel Auchi Edafe is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Port Harcourt and Honorary Consultant Cardiologist at the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital in Nigeria. He earned his medical degree from the University of Nigeria in 2008 and achieved dual fellowship certifications from both the West African College of Physicians and the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria in Cardiology in 2019. Dr. Edafe specializes in interventional cardiology, peripheral vascular interventions, and cardiac device implantation, with training from Apollo Heart Institute in.
A pioneer in Nigerian cardiac care, he performed the country's first left bundle branch area pacing and first endovascular cardiac biopsy. His extensive procedural experience includes over 1,000 dual-chamber pacemaker implantations, 400 cardiac resynchronization therapy devices, 300 implantable cardioverter-defibrillators, 1,000 coronary angiographies with 600 percutaneous coronary interventions, and 700 complex peripheral artery disease interventions. Currently serving as site principal investigator for an international clinical trial on pacemaker batteries in low-resource settings, Dr. Edafe has published over 30 peer-reviewed articles focusing on cardiac devices, coronary artery disease, and cardiovascular care delivery in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Through his clinical innovation, research, and teaching of medical students and residents, Dr. Edafe is advancing interventional cardiology capabilities and access to complex cardiac care in Nigeria and the Niger Delta region.
