Dr. Fiona Strasserking is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Cardiology at UT Southwestern Medical Center, where she serves as Faculty in Global Health. She earned her MD from McGovern Medical School at UTHealth, Houston, and completed her Internal Medicine residency at Washington University in St. Louis and Cardiovascular Disease fellowship at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
Dr. Strasserking is a distinguished global health cardiologist and researcher with extensive experience in sub-Saharan Africa. She completed fellowships at the NIH Fogarty International Center and PRIDE-RISE program. Her research focuses on cardiovascular disease in understudied populations, particularly in Sierra Leone and Zambia, where she serves as Visiting Professor at the University of Zambia and mentor/educator with Partners In Health. She is also the program coordinator for the International Heart Education Consortium that provides virtual and in person education in cardiovascular disease to trainees in Zambia, Sierra Leone and Ghana
She is board-certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Disease, and Adult Echocardiography. Dr. Strasserking is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and American Society of Echocardiography, and a member of the European Society of Cardiology and Pan-African Society of Cardiology. She has published research on peripartum cardiomyopathy, rheumatic heart disease, and cardiovascular risk factors in African populations.
