Mudasiru Adebayo Salami, MD, MBBS, MSc(Clin. Epid), MRCS(Glasg.), ChM Vasc. & Endovascular Surgery(Edinb.), FWACS is an award-winning senior lecturer at the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan, as well as a consultant cardiothoracic and vascular surgeon at the University College Hospital Ibadan. He has over 23 years of experience in medical practice in cardiothoracic and vascular surgery across four continents, which has ignited his passion for qualitative and compassionate patient-centred care.


He graduated from the University of Ibadan Medical School, after which he underwent postgraduate clinical fellowship training at the Leipzig Heart Centre, Cardiac Surgery Department, Leipzig, Germany; the Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases, Madras Medical Mission, in Chennai, India and the Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, Aberdeen, United Kingdom, before he finally returned to Nigeria. In May 2009, University College Hospital (UCH) in Ibadan appointed him as a consultant in cardiovascular and thoracic surgery.


While doing all this, he He launched the Dr. MAS Scholarship Programme as a result of his passionate interest in education as the cornerstone of an equitable and progressive society, providing financial and mentoring support to indigent brilliant students throughout Nigeria, starting with 30 scholars studying Medicine and Surgery, Engineering, Economics and Agricultural courses. He is currently pursuing an advanced clinical fellowship in paediatric cardiothoracic surgery at the Royal Hospital for Children, Glasgow, after stints at the Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children and Brompton Hospital (National Heart and Lung Institute, UK) in London. Dr. Salami has several publications in peer-reviewed journals, and he has contributed chapters to four surgical textbooks.



The Cardiovascular Education Foundation is a 501(c)(3) international nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting cardiovascular education, research and patient care in Africa and the African Diaspora.
