Professor Dike Ojji, Professor of Medicine and Preventive Cardiology at the University of Abuja, and also Director of the Institute for Advanced Medical Research and Training and Lead Investigator of the Cardiovascular Research Centre.


Professor Ojji holds an Honorary Visiting Professorship at the Cape Heart Institute, University of Cape Town. A leading authority on hypertension in African populations, he has been principal investigator for landmark multicenter trials including CREOLE and VERONICA, which have redefined our understanding of optimal blood pressure management in Black Africans. Currently leading multiple NIH-funded research grants totaling over $20 million, his work spans from defining hypertensive heart disease to establishing primary care systems for cardiovascular care in low-resource settings. 


Professor Ojji has been instrumental in shaping Nigerian health policy, including the development of national sodium reduction guidelines, task-shifting policies, and hypertension treatment protocols for primary care. With over 180 peer-reviewed publications and an h-index of 27, he continues to bridge the gap between research excellence and health system transformation across Africa.
