Dr. Okechukwu Ogah is a true champion of cardiovascular medicine in Nigeria and beyond. He presently serves as Senior Lecturer in Cardiology at the University of Ibadan and Consultant Cardiologist at University College Hospital.
He earned his medical degree and MSc in Epidemiology from the University of Ibadan, and his PhD from the University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa. He followed this up with fellowships in Cardiology from the University of Leipzig and Kings College Hospital.
A past President of the Nigerian Cardiac Society who now chairs its scientific committee, Dr. Ogah is also a Bernard Lown visiting scholar at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. His remarkable career includes fellowships with the West African College of Physicians, European Cardiac Society, and American College of Cardiology. As a leading clinical researcher, he has served as principal investigator for numerous landmark trials including THESUS, CREOLE, and INVICTUS, while spearheading the Ibadan Heart Failure and Atrial Fibrillation projects and the Nigerian AF Registry.
With over 120 peer-reviewed publications, Dr. Ogah previously served his community as Honorable Commissioner for Health in Abia State. Beyond his professional achievements, he is a devoted family man who continues to inspire the next generation of cardiologists while advancing cardiovascular care throughout Nigeria and the continent.
