Professor Ntusi is the Head of Medicine and the Clinical Lead for Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (CMR) and Cardiovascular Computed Tomography (CCT) at Groote Schuur Hospital. He serves as a Cardiologist, Professor, and Chair of Medicine in the Department of Medicine, Faculty of Health Sciences, at the University of Cape Town (UCT).
Professor Ntusi holds a BSc (Hons) degree in Cellular and Molecular Biology from Haverford College, USA, and an MBChB degree from UCT. He completed his fellowship in Internal Medicine through the Colleges of Medicine of South Africa. He pursued a DPhil in Cardiovascular Medicine at the University of Oxford and an MD in Cardiology at UCT, further solidifying his qualifications as a cardiologist.
His extensive research has significantly contributed to the understanding of cardiomyopathy, inflammatory heart disease, and heart failure, both in South Africa and internationally. Professor Ntusi is the recipient of numerous awards and honors and has an impressive record of published research. His primary research interests include inflammatory heart disease (with a focus on HIV-associated cardiovascular disease), non-ischemic cardiomyopathy, and advanced non-invasive imaging techniques, particularly CMR.
