Ms. Kwaku is a nurse and executive hospital administrator in NHS England. The trained as She trained at University College London Hospitals, after which she pursued her graduate studies in Human physiology and now holds an MSc for her efforts.
With 34 years nursing experience, and specialization in general intensive care/cardiac nursing, she now serves as the Associate Director of Nursing for Acute Speciality Medicine at King’s College Hospital in London, England and is the Chair of the Chief Nursing Officers Black and Minority Ethnic Strategic Advisory Group at the NHS.
While working as a nurse during the COVID-19 pandemic, she advocated for Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) nurses when it became clear these groups were being disproportionately affected by the disease. She delivered webinars, which reached thousands of caregivers at a time when they felt vulnerable, and information was scarce. She advocated for appropriate risk assessments and PPE for nursing staff and other clinical colleagues as the pandemic was advancing. For her efforts, she was awarded the OBE for services to nursing in 2020. She is also an ICN Global Nurse Leadership Initiative scholar, a recognition she was given in 2023.
