Dr. Zwelithini Brian Vezi, is a South African cardiologist and cardiac electrophysiologist based in Durban, with expertise in the diagnosis and management of cardiac rhythm disorders. One of South Africa’s early Black cardiac electrophysiologists, his clinical practice encompasses contemporary arrhythmia care, cardiac electrophysiology, and cardiovascular medicine.
Dr. Vezi earned his medical degree from the University of Natal and completed postgraduate training in Internal Medicine and Cardiology in Durban, including training at King Edward VIII Hospital and Inkosi Albert Luthuli Central Hospital. He also earned a Master’s degree in Clinical Pharmacology from the University of Pretoria before pursuing advanced fellowship training in cardiac electrophysiology at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute in Canada.
In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Vezi is an advocate for expanding access to advanced cardiovascular technologies and specialist cardiac care across Africa. He is also committed to cardiovascular education and public engagement, using traditional and digital platforms to increase awareness of heart rhythm disorders and cardiovascular disease. His career reflects a commitment to advancing electrophysiology while helping broaden access to contemporary cardiovascular care in South Africa and across the continent.
