Dr. Gbolahan Ogunbayo is an interventional cardiologist at Ephraim McDowell Heart & Vascular Institute in Kentucky, where he serves as Director of the Chest Pain and Heart Failure Programs and provides leadership across cardiac imaging, catheterization, and cardiovascular care.


A graduate of Obafemi Awolowo University in Nigeria, Dr. Ogunbayo completed Internal Medicine residency at Rochester General Hospital, where he subsequently served as Chief Resident. He completed Cardiovascular Disease and Interventional Cardiology fellowships at the University of Kentucky Gill Heart & Vascular Institute, later joining its faculty as an Assistant Professor and interventional cardiologist.


His clinical interests include high-risk and complex PCI, cardiogenic shock, mechanical circulatory support, pulmonary embolism, peripheral vascular disease, and advanced coronary imaging. An accomplished clinical researcher, he has contributed extensively to the cardiovascular literature across interventional cardiology, cardiovascular outcomes, and disparities in care.


Dr. Ogunbayo is passionate about cardiovascular education and community engagement and uses public speaking, traditional media, and social media to make heart-health information accessible, particularly to Nigerian audiences. Outside medicine, he enjoys sports, travel, family time, and nature photography, and encourages those around him to #BeGreaterThanAverage.


The Cardiovascular Education Foundation is a 501(c)(3) international nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting cardiovascular education, research and patient care in Africa and the African Diaspora.
