Chinwe Ogedegbe MD, MPH, MBA, FACEP

Dr. Chinwe Ogedegbe is an accomplished physician-scientist, Professor of Emergency Medicine, and a leading voice in clinical trials, health equity, and medical education. She earned her Doctor of Medicine degree in 1988 from Obafemi Awolowo University in Ife, Nigeria, followed by an Emergency Medicine residency at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, and a Master of Public Health (MPH) from Columbia University, New York. She recently expanded her leadership and business acumen by completing an MBA.

With over 25 years in Emergency Medicine and more than 15 years of experience as a research scientist, Dr. Ogedegbe has led high-impact clinical trials and public health studies. She has served on Institutional Review Boards (IRBs) and partnered with major funders including the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), National Institutes of Health (NIH), Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI), the New Jersey Department of Health, as well as the Pharma Industry. Her diverse portfolio spans clinical, community, and pharma-sponsored research.

A prolific academic leader, Dr. Ogedegbe served as the inaugural Vice Chair for Academic Affairs in Emergency Medicine at Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine, before leaving the HMH Network.

She designed and led the EM residency research curriculum for a decade, bridging undergraduate medical education (UME), graduate medical education (GME), and faculty development. She has mentored over 130 emerging health professionals—including residents, medical students, research associates, and nurse scientists—and has authored more than 105 publications in peer-reviewed journals.

Her work focuses on evidence-based interventions to improve outcomes among diverse Emergency Department populations. Signature research includes initiatives in smoking cessation, alcohol use disorder, palliative care, and public health programs to reduce the stigma around testing for HIV and viral hepatitis (B, C, and D). She has also participated in multi-site stroke, seizures and diabetes clinical trials and more recently, led grant-funded programs targeting hospital readmissions, emergency department recidivism, and health equity through screening for social determinants of health (SDOHs). Dr. Ogedegbe was an Associate Member of both the Center for Discovery & Innovation (CDI) and the John Theurer Cancer Center (JTCC) in New Jersey. She was the recipient of a Cancer Education and Early Detection (CEED) grant supported by both state and federal funding.

In August 2023, Dr. Ogedegbe and her team earned national distinction by achieving the first-ever Advanced Certification in Healthcare Equity awarded by The Joint Commission in the United States. As Health Equity Lead at the time at Hackensack University Medical Center (HUMC), she drove system-level strategies that positioned the institution as a leader in equitable care delivery.

Dr. Ogedegbe recently launched a unique Physician-Led Life Sciences Research Start-Up: intelligent Clinical Trials Solutions Holdings Inc. She is deeply committed to research capacity building and inclusive Clinical Trials, through neighborhood physician practices and community facing organizations that ICTS has in its network, driving locally relevant, evidence-based insights. “iCTS is poised to revolutionize the Research Clinical Trials landscape globally—establishing Investigator Research Networks that contribute to decentralizing Clinical Trials and increasing the diversity of Clinical Trials, that can provide better treatment options, optimize health outcomes and lower costs, for many more.”
