Julius Mwita MD

Julius Chacha Mwita, MD, MMed, MSc, FESC is an Associate Professor of Internal Medicine and Cardiology at the University of Botswana and a physician and cardiologist at Princess Marina Hospital in Gaborone. He previously served as Head of Medicine at Princess Marina Hospital and has played an important role in clinical care, cardiovascular education, and research in Botswana.

Dr. Mwita earned his medical degree from the University of Dar es Salaam and completed postgraduate training in Internal Medicine and Cardiology at MuhimbiliUniversity in Tanzania. He subsequently earned a Master of Science in Clinical Epidemiology from Stellenbosch University in South Africa.

An active clinician-investigator and educator, Dr. Mwita’s research focuses on cardiovascular disease in African populations, with particular interests in heart failure, rheumatic heart disease, hypertension, thromboembolic disease, and cardiometabolic disorders including diabetes. His work has contributed to understanding the presentation and outcomes of cardiovascular disease in Botswana and to broader efforts to improve the prevention and management of cardiovascular disease across sub-Saharan Africa.
