Ijeoma Eleazu MD

Ijeoma Eleazu, MD is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Cardiology at Emory University School of Medicine. Her clinical and research interests include cardio-obstetrics, maternal cardiovascular health, preventive cardiology, and cardiovascular health disparities, with a particular focus on improving cardiovascular outcomes during pregnancy and the postpartum period.

Dr. Eleazu earned her medical degree from Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. She completed her Internal Medicine residency at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center and subsequently completed her fellowship in Cardiovascular Disease at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. During her cardiology training, she developed a particular academic interest in the intersection of cardiovascular disease, maternal health, and social determinants of health.

Her research has examined cumulative psychosocial stress and cardiovascular risk, as well as postpartum hypertension and cardiovascular outcomes following preeclampsia. While at UT Southwestern, she also contributed to the development of a cardio-obstetrics clinic at Parkland Memorial Hospital providing specialized cardiovascular care for high-risk obstetric patients.

Dr. Eleazu is passionate about mentorship, cardiovascular education, and improving cardiovascular outcomes for women. Her work brings together clinical cardiology, cardio-obstetrics, and population health to address important gaps in maternal cardiovascular care.
