Adebayo “Bayo” Christian Atanda, MD is an advanced heart failure and transplant cardiologist with Winchester Cardiology and Vascular Medicine in Virginia. Board certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Disease, and Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology, his clinical interests include advanced heart failure, cardiomyopathy, heart transplantation, and mechanical circulatory support.


Dr. Atanda earned his medical degree from the University of Ilorin in Nigeria before completing Internal Medicine residency at Howard University Hospital, where he served as Clinic Chief Resident. He completed fellowship training in Cardiovascular Disease at George Washington University Hospital, followed by advanced fellowship training in Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology at New York-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center.


An active clinician-investigator and educator, Dr. Atanda has published extensively across heart failure, cardiac amyloidosis, structural heart disease, cardiovascular outcomes, and health disparities. His academic work has earned multiple research and teaching honors, including a Young Investigator Award and recognition for research mentorship. He is also deeply committed to mentorship, community cardiovascular health, and expanding opportunities for the next generation of physicians.


The Cardiovascular Education Foundation is a 501(c)(3) international nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting cardiovascular education, research and patient care in Africa and the African Diaspora.
