Alex Shipolini, BSc, MB BS, FRCS (C/Th), is Consultant Cardiac Surgeon at St Bartholomew's Hospital, London, and a founding consultant of the London School of Cardiothoracics. Since joining St Bartholomew's in 2000, he has developed extensive expertise in complex coronary artery surgery, aortic valve surgery, and septal myectomy, with a strong focus on improving surgical outcomes through innovation and quality improvement.
Mr. Shipolini developed a dedicated cardiac surgical outcomes database that has helped reduce postoperative complications and achieve consistently excellent results, as reflected in national outcomes published by the Society for Cardiothoracic Surgery (SCTS). He is also deeply committed to surgical education, organizing and teaching national and international courses through the Royal College of Surgeons and mentoring the next generation of cardiothoracic surgeons. His research interests include neurocognitive protection following cardiac surgery, postoperative outcomes, and the impact of sleep apnea on cardiovascular disease.
